Shawn Eatherton
Class of 1988- Shawn Eatherton exemplifies the qualities of a Distinguished Graduate of Kearney High School through nearly four decades of exemplary public service and leadership in the legal profession. Mr. Eatherton has served as Buffalo County Attorney since 2003 and is currently in his sixth elected term, demonstrating the trust and confidence of the community he serves. His career includes earlier service as a Deputy County Attorney in both Buffalo and Dawson Counties, as well as his ongoing role as Buffalo County Coroner. Recognized as Nebraska County Attorneys Association’s Prosecutor of the Year in 2019 and a Past President of the Association, he continues to shape the profession through statewide leadership, legislative testimony on public safety and victims’ rights, and service on the Crime Victim’s Reparations Committee. As an Adjunct Professor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Mr. Eatherton also shares his real‑world experience with future professionals. His dedication to justice, civic responsibility, and education reflects the values instilled at Kearney High School and makes him a deserving recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Graduate Award.
